The Dumbucker – Because Why Stop at Two Coils?
You’ve heard of humbuckers. You’ve heard of single coils. Maybe you’ve even dabbled in rail pickups or some wacky overwound P-90 variant. But have you ever thought, what if my pickup had eight coils? No? Well, I did. And that’s how the Dumbucker was born.
Originally built as somewhat of a joke, the Dumbucker is an eight-coil humbucker that defies logic, reason, and possibly some laws of physics. It’s ridiculous. It’s excessive. And it actually sounds incredible. The current iteration now includes coil-tapping capabilities , allowing you to unlock different combinations of its absurd coil array; you can explore everything from articulate chime to thick, growling overdrive—sometimes within the same breath.
This is not your dad’s vintage PAF. This is not some boutique recreation of a long-lost classic. This is the Dumbucker, a pickup for the adventurous, the experimental, and the just plain ridiculous. These will only be available in small, limited runs, because let’s be honest, the world can only handle so much Dumb.
The Dumbucker is on the darker side, as far as pickups go. Therefore, we recommend replacing the stock potentiometer in your guitar with a 1 meg pot. You can use a Telecaster style 3-position blade switch to utilize our recommended wiring; you can access classic PAF humbucker tones from either the bridge or neck two coils, in the 1 or 3 positions respectively, or switch to the middle position for all eight coils. I recommend setting your amp to the edge of breakup in humbucking mode, and then switching to the middle position for the over-the-top, fuzzed out tone of MAXIMUM DUMB.
